Medicare Advantage (Part C)
Minnesota Medicare Part C plans, also known as Medicare Advantage, are a type of Medicare health plan offered by a private insurance company that contracts with Medicare to provide all of your Part A and Part B benefits. Most Medicare Advantage plans also offer prescription drug coverage (Part D). If you in enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan, most of your health care claims will be paid for by the Advantage plan and not Medicare.
Medicare Supplement (Medigap)
Medicare Supplement (Medigap) insurance help fill "gaps" in original Medicare and is sold by private insurance companies. Original Medicare pays for most, but not all of the cost of covered health care services and supplies. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy can help pay for some of the remaining health care cost like co-payments, coinsurance and deductibles.
Prescription Drug Plan (Part D)
Medicare prescription drug coverage is an optional benefit offered to everyone who has Medicare. To get prescription drug coverage you must join a Medicare Advantage plan that offers prescription drug coverage or purchase a standalone policy sold by a private insurance company that adds coverage to original Medicare. You cannot add a standalone prescription drug plan to a Medicare Advantage plan.
